What to do when you think there’s no time for a media interview

We’ve all been there. The crazy-hectic weeks where there doesn’t seem to be even five minutes to fit anything additional into our schedules. That’s why we understand when we provide a stellar media interview opportunity for clients they need to check their plans and possibly do some arranging to make it happen.

Here are a few reasons why it’s almost always best to do what it takes with your schedule to make the media interview work.

Most meetings can be rearranged. Media interviews, however, won’t wait. The media landscape is happening in the present moment. When they need an expert in your field to talk about the latest news, it’s always best to be able to respond as soon as possible with your availability. Waiting too long can result in the reporter needing to go to another expert (or even worse, your greatest competitor).

Media interviews bring serious value. The audience that you are exposed to during your media interview holds such tremendous value. We know having an ultra-busy schedule is challenging to add in another 15 minutes for an interview; however, being able to share your message and achieve greater awareness to a mass audience is such a powerful thing. Keep that in mind when adding in that extra 15 minutes or so!

Media interviews live much longer than the air time! Sure your interview will run on the 11 p.m. news or in the morning paper, but because of social media, website links and sharing of articles, your expertise now lives much longer than the time it took to schedule it in your packed day.

Knowing these few tips should help get you jump-started with excitement and a ‘can-do’ attitude when aiming to get the next media interview in your busy schedule.
