In PR, we get to become the expert in many different fields. We might understand the complexities of an open-heart surgery, to the social demographics of HIV/AIDS, the purchasing behaviors of musicians to how a home remodel can be done on a budget.
Our jobs offer to us to fully understand our clients, their business, their customers, demographics, so that we can effectively write appropriate messages and be the mouthpiece of the organization. With that being said, it’s very difficult to write a press release, put together an event, update social media etc. if you don’t fully understand your client. This means more homework for you, frustrating communications and usually has an impact on results.
Make sure your PR firm does research regarding your organization and industry and that they have a full understanding of what you do prior to retaining them as your communications leader. Feel free to question their understanding to ensure you and they are comfortable.
Any aggressive, ambitious, and prepared PR professional would love to get to know your business more in-depth and appreciate the opportunity to do so.
