'PR'actitioner profile: The red dress factor

News & Insights

February is American Heart Month. The entire month is dedicated to spreading awareness of heart disease.

According to Wellness Junction, the campaign began in February 2004 and has grown into a national movement as more women, men, celebrities, healthcare professionals and politicians have joined movement to promote education about heart disease.

This campaign grew to be successful because of what some call the “Red Dress” factor.

The American Heart Association captured America’s attention with National Wear Red Day. This consisted of woman wearing red dresses. The day soon caught on and later men were wearing red on that day as well.

The “Red Dress” factor is the icing on the cake for any good campaign.  This could be in the form of a slogan, a mascot, a catch-phrase, or even a flash mob. The “Red Dress” factor is what captures the attention of your audience.
