PR is a team effort

When taking on a new client, we really want to get to know them, what their environment is like and what their goals are. We also want to meet with key stakeholders in their organization in addition to groups of staff members.

Why? The answer is simple - PR is a team effort. We always learned in school to play well together.

By communicating regularly to your key stakeholders and staff we are bringing them on board with PR efforts, the latest messages, and what to expect. This tells them they are an important factor in this process (which they are). It helps them understand your organization's goal and therefore they can be a part of it.

There's nothing like working for an organization and seeing them in the news or at community events and never knowing about it beforehand. Staff members feel included and helpful when they are informed. Also, it helps your message become communicated more clearly when they too understand it as well.

Picture this, a reporter calls your main line after receiving a press release, and one of your staff members says, "No we don't have a new foundation, and I will take a message and pass it on to our CEO". Then they become so busy during their day, they don't pass along the message until much later, or worse yet, not at all, in fear they have 'dropped the ball' by not sending the message in a timely manner. This happens all too often.

Meanwhile, your press release DID go out that morning announcing your new foundation and your efforts. The reporter is confused. You and your PR person are wondering about media interest and your staff member is feeling disconnected.

Here's one simple step you can do: Hold regular staff meetings. This can be once per week or once per month, but we're sure you will see great benefit from it!

That's why at NSPR, we even help our clients with customer service trainings, internal communications meetings, tools, surveys, and resources.

Let's make this a true team effort together!
